Music
is very important, as people say "it makes it or breaks it".
At a wedding you generally have all age groups so the objective is quite
simple: make everybody happy by playing music that everybody knows
and is familiar with.
One will always need all the latest songs to keep up with
your music, that never stops! Every month I get about eight new CDs from
the "Power Trakks" & "Promo Only" collections with all the latest
in Dance, Rock, Club, Country, Alternative, Slows, Latino, R&B ...
you name it. But what most people request is music from the 70s &
80's, the two top most requested songs I get are; "I Will Survive" &
"Dancing Queen" ( no joke ).
People want to hear music that means something to them,
music that brings back memories planted deep in you of when you were in
school or maybe when you did something crazy with your hair.
Music has to be played kind of like a wave, you start off
small and build it up slowly until it is time to bring it back down because
the next course is being served. If the music is like a flat line and
always the same thing, it is like a person in the hospital - IT'S DEAD!
You need to move around in the types of music, Do
not only play dance music for 45 minutes, the other guests
will not like that!
Play some social for the Aunts and Uncles, play the Disco
& Rock N Roll - mix in some "Ricky Martin" and don't forget to play
a slow song or two for the guys standing at the bar. Take the special
requests, go with the flow!
This is something I tell people when they call me for information;
Ask a person who attended a wedding one month later "what was the main
course", they might not remember if it was chicken, veal, or beef
but they will say that the food was good and that they eat well. Now ask
the same person three months later "how was the music" and
you will get a straight answer.
